Preliminary wind analysis

A preliminary wind analysis of the International Finance Forum Permanent Conference site in Guangzhou Nansha New Area, China has been carried out for an international competition of architectural design.

The study considered the prevailing wind direction and the average mean speed according to the closest reliable source of observed wind data, the Shenzhen Bao’an Airport.

The wind flow around buildings has been simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to understand the wind flow phenomena and identify solutions to mitigate distress and guarantee safety.

A logarithmic wind profile blowing from 30°N, between NNE and NE, with a speed of 5 m/s, i.e. 18 km/h, at 3 m above sea level has been simulated.

The hotel buildings composing the hotel protect the northern façade of the congress center from strong direct wind, gently bending and accelerating part of the wind flow around this building and carrying the rest of the stream towards the bottom of its façade. The result is a recirculation zone between the two complexes for which strategies can also be implemented to take advantage of natural ventilation.
